  Regional network meeting_7-8 February, 2014 | 18/11/2014

A two-day regional network meeting was held on the 7th and 8th of February, 2014, at the Faculty of Health Sciences, at the American University of Beirut, bringing together five core members from the Arab region, working in the field of sexuality and sexual health, with the main tasks of generating research, debates, and advocacy around the issues of S/SRH within a public health framework. The goal of the meeting was to develop the mission, vision, and objectives of a professional network.

Founding members, who come from diverse backgrounds and Arab countries, have developed a vision, mission, and objectives for the network and agreed to meet at least once per year to present and exchange their work on research, training and community initiatives, as well as discuss latest trends and developments on the regional and global levels with regard to SRH issues.

The meeting culminated with the successful launch of the Network of Arab Scholars on Sexuality and Sexual Health (NASSS) on the 8th of February, 2014. The launching of NASSS engaged several activists, physicians, health care professionals and other representatives of civil society organizations, NGOs, and relevant governmental organizations who attended the event and showed support and interest in joining the network.

Building this broader regional network will be a unique opportunity to work collaboratively in an effort to understand more accurately and comprehensively young people’s SRH issues, generate debate around issues of S/SRH, promote S/SRH research, and situate S/SRH discussions within an open and critical public health discourse in the region.

Founding members agreed to be committed to ensure the sustainability of the network and the maintenance of its direction and vision.
